DIY Job Searching
DIY (do it yourself) is all the rage right now. If you want to know how to do something yourself, a quick search on Pinterest or YouTube will connect you to videos and instructions—and lots of them!
But, is DIY always the best option? I remember wanting to paint my bedroom a bright red. It took me over two weeks and after so much time and effort invested, I still had to call in a professional painting company to fix it (and it only took them an hour). The time and energy it took me to do it myself could have been used on so many other things. Plus, I am a horrible painter!
The same lesson is learned by many job seekers. Of course, you can search the job boards and apply to openings. However, you never know where your resume is going and you have no one to guide you through the process. If you work with a qualified recruiter that has a focus on a your profession, that recruiter will lead you through the entire process. They can tell you about jobs that are NOT advertised on a job board. They can listen to what it is you really want in your next career move and then put that knowledge to good use by contacting employers on your behalf. They can then guide you through the entire process from the initial interview to the offer phase. The right recruiter wants to build relationships with candidates and clients so that everyone ends up in a better position. There is nothing more rewarding to a recruiter than to have a happy candidate and a happy client!
So, yes…you can do it yourself. But is it the best process that leads to the best outcome? Use your time wisely and build a strong relationship with a good recruiter. You will not regret it!
